I just read that after Maersk drops a full load off to Walmart, the ship heads to China with an empty ship. This is very hard to understand. Seems as though someone is getting screwed, namely the United States.

Are you sure that this page is owned by Maersk Mike Hoy ? I have worked onboard Emma, and JM: Yes Emma make Suez transits several times a year. She is too big to pass through the Panama Canal, but she has no problems what so ever duing the Suez transit. Alan: Yes the main engine has no problems running during work on fx a cylinder. You can unconnect one, or even two cylinders while the engine is running SL: Sailing schedules can be obtained at www.maerskline.com KP: Yes Emma is on route. She is currently working between Europe and Asia Diana: Sorry, Emma is not a passenger vessel, but sometimes special invited guests such as customers or journalists are invited to join Emma on one of her tours Azim: Normally there is about 18-20 in the crew stack. You have to be an employee at Maersk Line to work onboard Emma.

I have the same question about how a piston/conrod on one of the 14 cylinders can be worked on with the engine running, as shown in the documenary. I've seen images of this engine disassembled and everything seems to be on one big crankshaft. Thanks

While watching a History Channel documentary on the Emma Maersk the question occurred to me as to how one of the cylinders or pistons could be worked on while the enormous engine is in operation. Can you tell me if the engine must be stopped temporarily to work on or replace an engine part? Or otherwise, how can the work be performed on a single cylinder while the engine is turning? Thanks for clarifying.

[a]azim : Minimum safe manning is 13, obviously they are not sailing with such low number of crew due to maintenance work. Usually she's sailing with about 20-25 crew onboard. [a]Hans Aaroe: It doesn't take 5 weeks to build such a big vessel, usually to build an large containervessel it takes 6-10 months. To be more precise on the Emma: Keel laid : 2006-01-20, launched 2006-05-18 and delivered at the end of August, so took 7-8 months to complete her.

Strange to call her a PS-class vessel (Post Suez) when Emma or one of her sisyer ships passes the Suez Canal every week. Reply to Beth: It takes about 5 weeks to build a E-class vessel at Odense Steel Shipyard. Hence, the start of building must have been on July 2006.

The photo of the 10cyl deck has..on the RIGHT side, what appears to be writing in Korean, not like on LEFT which is Japanese. Why Korean? This engine was built in Japan..? I can't read Korean, btw. Love a direct reply: snowbum[a]bmwmotorcycletech.info

Hello, can anyone tell me the manufacture of the bottom paint used on Emma? We race sailboats and from the sound of it the pain would be great for a sailboat bottom.
